Affiliate Profits With Downloadable Audiobooks - Product Strategies No Affiliate Should Ignore

audio book subscription

By Jim Musselwhite

Affiliates looking to bolster their product line should first have a perspective of the downloadable audio book (audio book subscription) market size. Audio books are now a $2 billion industry, which has enjoyed a compound average growth rate of over 100% since 2004. Amazon is the undisputed leader in the worldwide book marketplace, online or offline. Barnes & Noble is another very popular and highly visited audio book market place on the Internet.

But here is the interesting point.

In 2005, the leading audio book download (audio book subscription) company was Audible.com, with sales of $65 million. That sales figure is exclusively downloadable audio books. Interestingly, that $65 million represents only 3% share of the total audio book market size, meaning that the vast majority of the audio book marketplace is is still a land grab. Affiliates who quickly seize the opportunity to weave audio book products into their niche sites will reap the rewards.

Let's examine how affiliates can implement this strategy:

Go Wide: With thousands of audio books (audio book subscription) available for download, with more coming daily, an affiliate marketer has an almost limitless choice of market niches into which she can build in audio books for added monetization. There are dozens of audio book categories that already overlay popular affiliate niches (e.g. business, health and recreation, self help) as well as subcategories (e.g. management, motivation, sex & relationships).

The challenge is certainly not finding applicable audio book titles, rather it is building out niche sites as fast as possible with as much relevant audio book content as possible. Fortunately, the technology is available today to quickly and easily add customized audio book content to virtually any affiliate web site.

Don't have a niche web site? Just select a topic and build around an audio book category. Of course, you'll want to add articles and reviews to distinguish your web site and create value for your visitors over and above the availability of audio book download titles.

Go Deep: Think about your last visit to Barnes & Noble or Borders store. If you looked for a specific audio book title, it was highly unlikely that you would have found it since these stores carry only a tiny fraction of what is available. You could order it online, but the odds are that you would have to wait a few days for the order to arrive on CD.

Now imagine how lucrative it would be for you as an affiliate if you could offer exactly what your visitor was searching for. Visitors could find their audio book of choice directly from within your niche web site, something they would never have been able to accomplish through a conventional audio book store. For example, there is a far greater chance of selling audio books on "learning foreign exchange" from a foreign exchange site than there is at a conventional bookstore or even a generalized audio book (audio book subscription) site. The ability to go deep into these niches is the key to affiliate profitability.

Optimize for search engines while avoiding duplicate content: If you are concerned that Google (and other search engines) duplicate content filters will shut you down for page after page of audio book title content, you can relax. Downloadable audio book (audio book subscription) content distribution technology is available today to ensure that every page of audio book content on your site is unique.

Tools are available from Spoken Network that make it almost infinitely impossible to get the same page twice. For example, if 100 page were generated with this tool, the chances of generating a page that has been created for someone else previously are over ten billion to one. Your audio book (audio book subscription) affiliate site is a "content magnet" for the search engines.

The search engines love original content. With the ability to publish unique pages of audio book (audio book subscription) titles in an instant, the search engines will very likely rank your pages higher once they spider your content.

Maximize commissions for profit: Amazon has long held a leading position in affiliate programs for book sales. Yet Amazon's single digit affiliate commissions pale in comparison to the newer audio book content suppliers that have entered the market. So monetize your niche sites with more lucrative commissions. And for those with pure content sites (articles, reviews), add Google Adsense ads to the sites you create. With such strong audio book content, it's quite likely that your Adsense revenue will skyrocket. Even if you never sell an audio book.

Yes, go wide AND go deep. Affiliates just starting out with limited resources would be advised to start slowly with a few niche sites (go deep) and later expand to other niches as resources and time permit (go wide).

Main Benefits to Affiliates

* Monetize your affiliate sites further through audiobook sales and high commissions

* Offer a highly tailored set of products for your customers

* Customer affordable, with substantial savings versus audiobooks on CD

* Usually a non-subscription model offered by audiobook content suppliers (no ongoing commitment)

* Instant access 24/7 enabling sales to be generated all the time with NO affiliate involvement (passive revenue)

* Tools to enable affiliates to sell directly off their own site. The customer thinks he is buying direct from the affiliate site.

How To Get Audio Book MP3 Downloads

audio book subscription

By Eddie Lamb

Downloading audio book MP3's is simple, the process is much like downloading anything else from the internet; the file needs to be saved to the subscribers computer, in MP3 format, and from that point can be saved to a CD (for personal use only) or directly to an MP3 player.

The fees for this sevice are usually purchased either for monthly fees or by purchasing pre-paid credits. The cost varies depending on the number of downloads per month (usually one to four); also the cost is generally higher than a rental club because downloads don't have to be returned.

Clubs and Credits

There are benefits to both clubs and credits; clubs require a monthly fee, and limit the number of downloads per month the more downloads allowed generally the higher the fee will be. In addition to the selected monthly download some companies offer bonus weekly pre-chosen selections.

Credits are available through certain companies at a price of around ten dollars for each MP3 download and will often need to be pre-purchased by the dozen; for a person who travels a lot or has impaired vision, purchasing credits to download may be more economical then paying a monthly fee and supplementing their collection with additional purchased audio books.

MP3 Audio Book Downloads or Renting Audio Books

The style of reader/listener a person is will be the deciding factor as to which type of audio books a person should purchase; downloading MP3 audio books is essentially purchasing them as to renting which is just that renting the audio book.

If a person is uninterested in creating a collection of audio books renting is definitely the way to enjoy audio books; if a person is interested in forming a personal collection of audio books to enjoy over and over as often as they like, downloading MP3 audio books is the logical choice for that person.

Benefits of MP3 Audio Book Downloads

Downloading MP3 audio books is an economical alternative to joining a book of the month type club; MP3 audio books are also less expensive than purchasing a book on CD. MP3 audio book downloads are faster than renting as they may be downloaded from the internet there is no waiting for a selection to become available or for shipping times from the point of ordering. Audio book MP3 downloads are faster, easier, and a greater value than any other form of audio book.

Audio Book Rental Services - A Great Facility For the Commuter (audio book subscription)

audio book subscription

By Mike Selvon

No matter if you are facing a long road trip with squirming children, a long and boring commute on a daily basis, or some other situation when you know you will be "stuck" in waiting mode of some kind, then there is no doubt that having access to an interesting and entertaining audio book or two can help make the time go by more pleasantly. In this day of all things internet, it should come as no surprise that there are many websites that provide audio book rental memberships. These membership sites give you access to a huge and always growing collection of all kinds of them on CD or MP3 format versions that you can download.

There are quite a variety of rental services to be found online. Some of these rental services charge a fee each month, while others have an annual fee that you must pay in order to become a member and have access to their audio books on CD or their downloads, depending on your preference.

Audio book rental (audio book subscription) services have a huge library of titles that you can choose from and generally work in a similar fashion to Netflix, which introduced DVD rentals online. One you purchase a membership to the rental service you will log in and make a list of the titles that you want to listen to and then indicate the order you would like to receive them in.

Next, the rental service will send the titles that are highest on your priority list if they are available at that time. If you choose a new audio book release that is very popular, then you might not receive it right away even if it is in the first position of chosen audio books on your list. For your first shipment, you will receive the audio books that are highest on your list if they are in stock at the time you set up your account.

When you receive your audio book titles (audio book subscription) from the rental service, you will also have a postage paid return envelop for each of the audio books so that you can send them back individually, as you are finished with each one. As soon as you send one back, another one will be sent out to you from the audio books on your list. In this way, you will always have at least one audio book on hand to listen to while others are being returned, processed, and while new audio book selections are being sent out to you.

Most of these companies have different subscription levels that you can choose from that will allow you to have anywhere from one audio book to four audio books rented (audio book subscription) at any one time. The fewer audio books you have at a time, the lower your monthly or yearly fee will be.

While the cheapest way to go is to only have one audio book rental at a time, most people prefer to have a subscription that allows them to have at least two audio books available to them. This allows them to have one book rental that they can listen to while the other one is being returned.

For people who travel a great deal, or spend a lot of time commuting, or for families, the plans that allow four, or even more audio book rental (audio book subscription) titles to be rented at a time can make more sense. Some companies allow you to change your plan from month to month; therefore, if you want some extra books to take on a long vacation you can do that and then switch to a lower plan when you return from vacation.

Mike Selvon portal offers free articles on audio books. Find out more about audio book rental services, and leave a comment at the audio book reviews blog where a free gift awaits you.

Audio Bookclubs: Comparison Shopping Tips

audio book subscription

By Ethan Allen

Avid readers love expanding their horizons and learning as much as they can about as many things as possible. But with only so much time in a day, millions have turned to audiobooks. This way, they can accomplish even more as their eyes and hands are now free to perform other tasks as they absorb the material by ear. There are many audio bookclubs catering to this market now. Here are some things to consider before deciding which one is right for you.

Selection

One of the first things to check when comparing audio book clubs is their selection. Some bookclubs cater to just one specific genre, for example science-fiction audiobooks or the latest non-fiction release on pyschology. Other clubs carry classics, best-sellers and latest releases across a wide variety of topics. Take the time to identify the types of books you enjoying reading first. Armed with this information, you can then check to see if a particular audio bookclub will be a good match.

Formats

The next thing to do is find out what formats the club offers its audiobooks in. Some of the older and larger clubs offer their audiobooks on cassette and CD by mail. Others offer these formats plus a selection of their titles in downloadable format for playback on your computer, iPod or other MP3 player. Other clubs only offer their titles as downloads. Because of this, it is important to check and see if they offer their audiobooks in a format you can actually use.

If you are open to any format, you might consider catching up with the times and going digital. Remember that CDs and cassettes take time to arrive and return by mail, while digital recording allow for instant access. Furthermore, CDs and cassettes loaned through an audiobook club have often passed through the hands of many subscribers and their quality may have become very poor. On the other hand, digital downloads sound as clear as they did right after they were recorded and suffer no loss in playback quality over time.

Subscription Plans

Speaking of access, most audiobook clubs have a variety of subscription plans depending on the number of audiobooks you'd like to be able to access during a specific timeframe. Since it is common for an audio bookclub to charge a monthly-subscription rates, the higher the price, the more CD's or cassette audio books you can have sent to you at one time. If you choose a lower price plan, remember to account for the amount of time it takes to receive and return your current selection by mail before you can choose your next title. This can severely limit the number of audiobooks you can actually borrow in a given month.

For those that want to access downloadable audios, the higher subscription plans usually equal a higher number of downloads each month. If the club carries most of the titles you want as digital downloads, this can often be the most cost-effective option.

Armed with this information, going online and researching the various audio bookclubs becomes a much more enjoyable task. Taking the time to do your comparison shopping before signing up will ensure that the club you join provides you with most relevant audiobooks for your interests at the best possible price.

Besides audio bookclubs, you can also browse a huge collection of instantly downloadable ipod audio books at http://www.CrownAudioBooks.com right now.

How to Listen to Books on Tape

audio book subscription

By M.K.

The publishing industry has increased the accessibility of literature by releasing books on tape, CD and in digital formats for people who are too busy to set aside time for reading or who prefer to listen to books while engaging in other activities like driving or exercising. These books are available from a variety of sources, some free and others that can be more expensive.

Step 1
Determine how you will listen to audio books. If you plan to listen to them while in your car and your car plays only cassettes, or if you want to listen to them while running and you have an MP3 player, you will be limited as to which audio books are available to you, depending on format.

Step 2
Find a source for your selected source of audio books. Many public libraries offer books on cassette and some books on CD for little or no charge. There are also a number of online websites that offer either audio book rentals or sales of audio books that can then be downloaded and either recorded onto a CD or transferred to an MP3 player. Some sites that you can visit online are BooksOnTape.com, Audible.com, Borders and Barnes and Noble.

Step 3
Determine if you want to purchase a subscription or individual books if you decide to purchase an audio book. Subscriptions offer members lower prices and special offers, so they are better for people who plan to buy a number of books over the subscription period. For example, at Audible.com, "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe" costs about $6 more to purchase for nonmembers. However, if you only plan to buy a limited number of books, you are usually better off not becoming a subscriber.

Step 4
Download audio books you have purchased online onto your computer. If you have a CD player, burn the downloaded audio book to a CD; make sure the file is in a format that is compatible with your CD player. If you have an MP3 player or an iPod, download the audio book onto your player for listening.

Tips & Warnings

If you are borrowing audio books from a library or rental company, be sure to return your items on time to avoid paying a late fee.

How to Find Free Audio Books

audio book subscription

By eHow Arts & Entertainment Editor

Dinner's been served. Your stomach is full. It's now time to sit in that old, comfortable chair and read a few chapters in your favorite book. Or is it? This is the 21st Century. People now sit in those easy chairs and listen to audio books, which are favorite books recorded on tape, CD or downloaded from the Internet as MP3 files. And many audio books can be found without spending a dime.

Instructions

Step 1
Check out your local public library for free audio books. Most libraries now have extensive audio sections offering everything from classics to best sellers on tape or CD.

Step 2
Find many free audio books on the Internet, where, thanks to the Gutenbberg Project, you can find many books to read and listen to on your PC, iPod or MP3 player without fear of breaking any copyright regulations. Although you won't find any recent best sellers, many of the free classics have been recorded for you to enjoy. A few of the better websites are listed in the resources section.

Step 3
Avoid services, such as those from Bittorrent and Limewire, in which audiobooks might be illegal to download and play. If you use either of these services, be aware that you may be breaking the law.

Step 4
Check out library book sales. Although they may not actually be "free," you could walk away with a bagful of audio books for just a few dollars. These sales are usually held a couple of times per year and can hold a treasure trove of great titles for those willing to paw through tons of books, CDs and other items.

Tips & Warnings

There are many websites that claim to offer free audio books, but charge a fee for membership. An example of this is audiobooksforfree.com, which charges a small fee for their "free" books.

How to Find Free Ebooks and Audiobooks

audio book subscription

By Patricia Gilliam

The Internet has opened up a lot of opportunity to browse public domain books and audio books for free. In this article, I'll give you some great places to start.

Instructions

Step 1
Project Gutenberg has an extensive list of classic and public domain books--primarily in .pdf format and webpage formats. There are a few free audiobooks as well.

Step 2
LibriVox is another volunteer-based website that is entirely library books--I'll link you to their main library in the "Resources" tab.

Step 3
Check with your local library as well--many have free audiobook subscription programs that can allow you to download books to your computer for a limited period of time.

Step 4
Though it's rare for it to be entire books, many author's websites offer previews and excerpts of their novels. It's a great marketing tool for them and makes it easier for readers to see if they would like the books or not. Stephenie Meyer's website is a great example of this.

How to Rent an Audio Book Online

audio book subscription

By eHow Arts & Entertainment Editor

Whether its a long commute to work, a Saturday afternoon running errands or a road trip with the kids, an engrossing audio book can make the time fly. Nowadays, for a flat monthly or annual fee, you can rent a vast selection of audio books online in tape, CD or digital audio formats such as .wma.

Instructions

Step 1
Rent audio books from companies such as Simply Audio Books or Audio to Go, two audio book rental services that function much the same way Netflix does for movies. You pay a membership fee in exchange for the privilege of renting an unlimited number of audio books. The number of books you can have out at any given time depends on your subscription level. You can pay by the month or by the year.

Step 2
Download audio books from services such as Jiggerbug. Jiggerbug allows you to download to your computer or to an MP3 player. Simply Audio books also offers these services, plus it allows you to burn the audio books you download to CD.

Step 3
"Borrow" audio books from your local library by accessing its online audio book service. Just enter the login information, download some simple software, and "check out" as many audio books as you like. You can't "borrow" (download) an audio book if someone else already has it "checked out." You can add yourself to the wait list, and you'll receive an email once the audio book has been "returned." Some titles can be burned to CD, and some cannot. All can be downloaded to computer or MP3.

Step 4
Find audio books on tape at Audio Queue (which also offers audio books on CD). For a monthly membership fee, you can have as many as four titles out at any one time. As with Simply Audio's or Jiggerbug's rental services, you set up a queue of titles you want to receive, and Audio Queue will mail them directly to your home. When you're done, you mail the title back in the prepaid envelope, and Audio Queue will send out the next title in your queue.

Why Should We Download Audio Book Titles?

audio book subscription

By Alan J Moore

I guess it's a funny old world when people enjoy reading using their ears rather than their eyes! The ability to download audio book (audio book subscription) titles has proven to be very popular, especially for those who feel too busy to find time to put their feet up, pour a glass of wine and have a good old 'traditional' read. But it's not a popular trend with everybody.

Detractors moan that audio book CDs are too bulky, they get lost easily and you need a CD player to hand. The actor reading the story might not have the 'right' kind of voice and this is off-putting (especially if you've built up an 'internal' voice in your head already). We also hear that they're a threat to traditional reading skills.

However, this ignores the broader spectrum: audio books (audio book subscription) open up great literature (and factual writing) to a wider audience and, as we live in the computer age, there are many different quick, cheap and convenient methods of delivery. Every town seems to have a new multimedia outlet springing up, providing all kinds of software and hardware audio products. But maybe the greatest advancement is in the ability to download audio book (audio book subscription) titles.

The most common route to follow is to download the audio book (audio book subscription) as an MP3 (although there are propriety formats which are often designed to restrict the amount of copying that can be done). MP3s are in common use and can be stored on your computer's hard drive, burned onto a CD or DVD or transferred onto an iPod or MP3 player (for those who like to listen to 'War and Peace' whilst jogging!). The beauty of this method is that the original 'master' file is still on your hard drive, so if you lose your MP3 player or scratch your CD, you can still listen to your audio and transfer it to another medium when you're ready.

With the introduction of the new iPod phones (and the clones that will follow by other manufacturers) downloading audio books (audio book subscription) will become even more popular. Imagine being able to make a call, take photos, listen to music AND listen to your favourite Harry Potter novel all on one small, portable device!

The best way to download audio book titles (audio book subscription), then, is to join a subscription service. The companies providing this service have proliferated greatly over the last few years and most provide a reasonably priced and hassle-free download of your books. Joining these services need not be expensive and is not difficult to do. Browsing their extensive catalogue of fiction and non-fiction titles is one of my favourite activities, akin to wandering around a huge bookstore in town, but without all the crowds!

There are many online services where you can browse, then join their subscription service. Here are just a few of the hundreds available:

1. Audible.com and Audible.co.uk

2. AudioVille.co.uk

3. SimplyListen.com

4. SimplyAudioBooks.com

5. Talking-Book-Store.com

6. AudioBooksForFree.com

I realize it can be difficult choosing an online service for your audio books, but there are review resources on the internet (which you should definitely check out) and most of the companies offer free trial periods where you can evaluate their service and try out their systems and quality of books BEFORE you commit any hard cash.

So, there really is no excuse not to download audio book titles and try out what is going to be a hugely popular way to digest literature in the future!

How to Find Free Audio Book Downloads Online

audio book subscription

By eHow Arts & Entertainment Editor

Whether you are looking for audio book files for a long commute, road trip or to spice up a workout, you can find free downloads online. Audio books can be expensive to purchase, particularly if you do it regularly. Finding free audio book downloads online gives you entertainment and more money in your pocket.

1. Read the classics. Books in the public domain occur frequently as free downloads. Several websites have public domain works available. In some cases, volunteers do the audio so the quality of reading may be less than in commercial works, but the catalogs are broad and the price is right—free.

2. Sign up for a free trial. With the growth of the audio book industry, websites offering subscriptions or audio books for sale are growing too, and many offer free trials or free audio books. Sign up and try out the service; you may find it works for you and at the least, you get a free book or subscription time. Audio books from these sources tend to be current works and read more professionally than many volunteer produced ones.

3. Look for promotional materials. Some publishing companies give away audio books in order to attract new customers to a particular author or genre. The works are likely to be non-mainstream and the authors unknown but sometimes, you can find a gem.

4. Contact your local library. Your library may have a subscription to sources like Over Drive or netLibrary. If you have a free account with your local library, you can download audio books from the site your library has an account with. Audio book choices tend to be similar to those you'd find on a commercial site so if your library has access, this is a great way to get books to listen to.

5. Search through available podcasts. Again, many of the podcast audio books produced are those in the public domain, but some authors are doing installments of their own books.

Digital Audio Books Are Growing In Popularity

by Vance Kline

audio book subscription

Books that you wanted to read for a long time, but that shortage of time did not allow, are now possible for you to 'read' in the form of an audio ebook, actually read for you by a skillful narrator. Story telling, which has a very long tradition, is increasing in reputation again with the new technology.

Some years ago audio books were mainly used for blind and sight impaired people or for kids and 'lazy' people who either can not or do not wish to read themselves. There has been a dramatic change in the area of utilization lately. Nowadays, audio books are used by millions of ordinary people keeping them company on long train rides and car trips, while relaxing in the bedroom, traveling on an airplane, or even washing the dishes.

There is now a vast diversity of book titles with audio book versions. Number one hits, classic children's tales, informative how-to's, and convenient self-improvement titles are just some of the themes and topics covered in the world of audio books. Thousands upon thousands of prospects are offered on downloadable and mail order audio book websites, which span an endless selection of titles. Audio books can be bought in bookstores, acquired from libraries or bought and downloaded on the internet. They come in different formats: CD, cassette or as a file (mp3) downloadable to a computer. On the internet you will find audio books shops, rental audio books sites, and enrollment sites where you can purchase audio books.

The enormous advantages of listening to your best-loved book instead of reading it, has resulted in a wide and rising popularity of downloadable audio books. Learning is truly made easier and more fun with the help of audio books. The eyes won't be fatigued and the listener can still be engaged in other activities while learning and listening to the subject of a book. You can do other things in the house while listening to audio books, or you can listen while jogging and even while commuting to and from work. You do the absorption and learning from an audio book, while someone else does the reading. The downloadable type of audio books is the fastest expanding niche of format types. Because these books are stored virtually or online, downloadable audio books are the most beneficial of them all.

The industry has a hard time producing what people want because audio books demand is growing very rapidly. For consumers the growing demand means that prices are being reduced because of larger quantities. You will have a great deal of flexibility after you have downloaded a selected audio book to your laptop. You can assign your audio files to a wide range of media options to maximize portability with this kind of system.

You will find a diversity of services to look upon when looking for audio books on the internet. There are subscription sites that require a sign-up in order to get access to their products. After joining the membership, you will pay a monthly or yearly fee to download audio books or have them sent to your home. With other internet book shops you may just purchase any title you like and download it immediately.

Downloadable Audio Ebooks Are Increasingly Popular
